Description

At 30 km from Heraklion and at an altitude of 1.040m, the traditional cottages Arodamos are located in plain nature, in a beautiful environment with stunning views over the fertile plateau of Kroussonas and mountains of Crete. The charming welcome by the owners, the authenticity of the accommodation and quiet location make an ideal base for exploring this beautiful region, classified Natura 2000.

Overlooking the Kroussonas plateau, the six independent cottages are built with the utmost respect for the environment and operate with renewable sources of energy, photovoltaic and small windmill nearby. 

At your disposal, a cozy sitting room, used as reception, where you can plan your daily trips with the help of the charming owners Irini and Giannis or, during the winter time, there you can relax around the fireplace having a warm drink. 

The must of the place is the tavern with its famous Cretan recipes passed down from generation to generation, prepared from the produce of the region and from vegetables coming from the family’s garden. The tavern offers hot and cold beverages, pastries and homemade specialties.

The rich breakfast is served either in the tavern or on the terrace under the pergola. Composed of sweet and salty pies (“pites”), marmalades, fruit juice and fresh homemade bread, it is an excellent start of the day. 

A beautiful swimming pool in a nicely designed space awaits you upon your return from daily trip for a refreshing dive.

we very much enjoyed our stay at Arodamos. We enjoyed the very warm welcome by Yannis and Irina, the cottage was very cosy and well equiped, the food was very good, the view splendid, our children were delighted by the donkey ride. Notre séjour à ARODAMOS en août a été très satisfaisant : excellent accueil, très sympathique ; bonne cuisine, en qualité et en quantité ; hébergements très bien conçus, en particulier pour une famille (mezzanine) ; le mobilier est excellent et permet d’être autonome ; quelques détails agréables (café, thé à disposition) ; l’environnement est très agréable, dégagé, calme, à l’écart ; très bon chemin d’accès ; activités : la piscine (très agréable et propre), le tir à l’arc, et l’âne qui tire le traîneau sur le blé, ont bien plu aux enfants (10 ans) ; le prix : très correct pour un bon niveau de prestations

Access Information

From Heraklion (30km, 1h00 approx.) Take the National Road to Rethymnon and after the village of Gazi, continue towards Kroussonas. Cross the village and then follow the signs for the Monastery of Ag. Irini. In continuation, follow the wooden plates of "Arodamos" ("Αρόδαμος" in greek).

The Tsikandilaki family will be very glad to share with you their passion for the professions of the past:
threshing of wheat, bread and cheese making, textiles producing with traditional methods.

The pottery workshop and all stages of manufacture, starting from collecting the clay from the earth.

We must not omit to mention the botanical garden with aromatic herbs of Crete and cows, chickens and goats in a field nearby.

For those who prefer sports, you can do archery and mountain biking with the 4 bikes available at the guesthouse.

You can visit the female monastery, Agia Irini, at 10 km. For walkers, there is a beautiful trail up to gorge of Agia Irini.

Drive up to the plateau of Kroussonas, at 1,200 m altitude, you'll see there the "Mitata", traditional animal shelters, as well as many orchards with apple and almond trees.

The last couples of eagles, a protected and endangered species, took refuge on the mountain region of Gournos, classified Natura 2000.

In the village of Kroussonas, at 12 km, you will find shops, banks and ATM, post office, pharmacies, supermarkets, a cooperative of local products, taverns, cafes, etc. ...

The sandy beach of Amoudara, at 25 km, is the nearest one.
