Built with respect to the environment and the local architecture, this unique Cottage of 22sq.m.  consists of a single room. Fully equipped and tastefully decorated, offers all modern comforts.     

Surrounded by forests of chestnut, beech, oak, fruit trees, grasses and cypresses, it offers magnificent sunsets with beautiful views of the sea and the slopes of Mount Pelion.

Taste the excellent dishes, cooked and prepared on site exclusively with farm produce (table d'hôtes).

Access Information

By air:

There are several flights per week from England, Ireland, France, Belgium and Germany to the airport of Nea Anchialos, situated 45 min. from Volos or to Thessaloniki (250km)>

From Athens: National Road Athens – Lamia – Thessaloniki. After Almiros, continue towards Larisa and then follow the direction for Velestino and Volos. 4 km before Volos, take the Ring Road for Portaria (approx. 335 km).

Arriving in Portaria, continue towards Zagora. Karaiskos farm is located at 1500m and there are signs leading to it.

From the Cottage

Greek cooking classes are organized with local chefs. An experience not to be missed! Book on line your next cooking lesson

Participation in the agricultural life of the farm: Gardening, collection of organic fruits and vegetables, animal care.

Possibility to buy organic fruits and vegetables from the farm and homemade products such as pickles, marmalades and much more depending on the season.

The Pelion Gastronomy Festival is held on the farm in September, with exhibition and sales of local products, food and wine tasting, demonstrations and much more.

Pony rides are offered for children as well as other outdoor activities.

Organized hikes by professional guides on the traditional paths of Pelion (Kalderimia).

The owners will show you some beautiful walks and hikes that are easy to do without fail from the village, such as: Portaria – Hania, a magnificent 2 hour route; the Path of the Centaurs, a short walk (20’ A/R) from the village square to the springs below or the Portaria – Makrinitsa hike by the mountain road (4 hours approx.)

In the area

The small traditional village of Portaria is full of life all year round. Visit the Folklore Museum of the village as well as the Byzantin Museum in Makrinitsa, at a distance of 2 km.

It is worth visiting the recently renovated complex "Agora 1955" located in the main parking lot of the village. It is open daily from 10am and you can enjoy your breakfast with many special varieties of coffee and delicious donuts.

At lunch time you can taste the delicious dishes prepared with local products and try some selected wine labels of the area. You can also buy finest products and wines from local producers of Pelion & Thessaly.

The nearest beaches are Kala Nera and Afissos (25 km, 20΄) on the Pagasitic Gulf side and the beach of Agios Giannis on the Aegean side.

During winter, at a distance of 12 km, the small ski center Agriolefkes in Chania, welcomes you to enjoy ski and other snow sports. From the cottage you can book skiing lessons with qualified instructors.

Bike Or Hike is a family business dedicated to sharing its passion for outdoor activities (including cycling, MTB mountain biking, trekking and hiking) on Pelion with visitors from around the world who have a similar sensitivity for the lovely part of Greece in which we live and work.

Bike Or Hike organize mountain bike and trekking tours with an experienced local guide for both independent groups of visitors (groups of four or more). Full equipment can be provided for mountain biking and trekking.
