Eleven kilometers away from the city of Heraklion, on the way to Anogia, the village and the traditional hotel Arolithos, have been entirely built with respect to the local architecture by the Saloustrou family so as to offer to their guests the best of Cretan hospitality and traditions. At this hotel, you will follow the Cretan way of life throughout the duration of your stay!

The family property is spread out in twenty-two acres. The Arolithos hotel is the perfect representation of an authentic Cretan village, with its central square, the church, the colorful alleys and craftsmen working in their shops.

The traditional rooms are divided into small neighborhoods in the streets of the village and are situated either on the ground floor or on the first floor. All are quite large, with simple amenities, while the furniture and decor are typical examples of Cretan art.

You will find a welcoming reception at your disposal, where they will inform you about all activities in the region.

You can drink something and relax at the small traditional coffee shop or the cafeteria that opens in the evening or even in the coffee shop/bar by the pool (depending on the season).

The restaurant opens from noon till midnight and offers excellent Cretan cuisine. It also has an ISO certification and the kitchen has been described as "authentic Greek cuisine". When weather permits, breakfast is served outside.

The area around the swimming pool is beautifully landscaped with chairs, sun beds and umbrellas and stunning views of the valley of Heraklion.

Le cadre du village est sympa, très bien situé, à 15 minutes du centre ville et de l'aéroport, avec une belle piscine. Le personnel du restaurant est très sympathique et les repas d'un bon rapport qualités/prix. En revanche, les chambres sont vieillissantes, la douche et son support étaient cassés, la porte vitrée également et les vitres décollés... Quelques travaux seraient à prévoir!

Fabuleuse expérience à ne pas manquer ! Tout le personnel a été très accueillant et gentil . Immersion totale dans un lieu magique dés notre arrivée. Restés deux nuits, nous y retournerons au cours de notre séjour en Crète !

A 15 mn de l'aéroport, un ensemble très agréable de petites constructions dans le style traditionnel. Simple mais très propre et fonctionnel. Une grande piscine et une bonne taverne. Parfait, par exemple, pour passer un jour ou deux à l'arrivée lorsque l'avion arrive en soirée.

Hotel atypique situé dans un village crétois reconstitué (maisons, taverne, café, boutique), à quelques km seulement d'Héraklion mais en pleine campagne donc très calme, dans un cadre magnifique avec des fleurs partout et une belle piscine. Très bien entretenu et très propre. Nous y avons passé 2 nuits en formule 1/2 pension: petit déjeuner + dîner, les repas sont servis sur une grande terrasse ombragée avec vue sur la piscine et la vallée environnante, et avec le chant des oiseaux. Tout est fait maison, cuisine simple mais très bonne et copieuse. Notre chambre était située dans une petite maison, rustique, mais nous avons eu chaud malgré la climatisation. Personnel accueillant, prévenant mais discret et respectueux. Très bon rapport qualité/prix et bel établissement .

A place out of the time, where you are, although close to Heraklion, in a typical, rural and quiet atmosphere. Very nice and quiet rooms. Very nice piscine with view and casscades. Restaurant with tables in the shadow of the trees... Perfect to feel out of place.

Nous avons séjourné en Crète dans 4 hébergements de votre réseau: Arolithos, Zouridi, Mehori Georgila, Thalori. Arolithos est un très bon point de chute pour la descente d'avion, tous ont été formidables, chacun dans un genre différent. Accueil, environnement, qualité de la rénovation de ces beaux bâtiments anciens: parfait. Une mention spéciale à Thalori, du fait de l'originalité et de la beauté du lieu. Nous parlons du réseau Guest inn autour de nous dès que la conversation roule sur les voyages en Grèce...

Access Information

From Heraklion (11 kms, approximately 20ʼ) Follow the National Road Heraklion-Rethymno and then follow the direction towards Anogia and Tyllisos. From Chania (136 km) and Rethymnon (78 km) Follow the National Road Chania – Rethymnon - Heraklion. Arriving to the region of Gazi, exit the National Road following the signs for Gazi – Tylissos - Anogia. The Arolithos Traditional Hotel is located 1,5 km before Tylissos and there is a signpost.

At the hotel

The competitive advantage of the Arolithos Village is the museum of rural history and folk art, established by the patriarch of the family many years ago. At the museum old objects from the region are collected and restored. It is known throughout the island for the rare and precious pieces that showcase the folk history of Crete. Guided visits are organized every day. You can get more information at the reception.

Don’t miss the two “Original Cretan houses” open to the public, which are exact replicas of Cretan houses and the lifestyle of the older times. 
You'll find also a traditional grocery store with the basics and many Cretan products.

Visit the “Folk Art Village” with many local artisans that you can get acquainted with their art: painting, mosaic making textiles, icons, “komboloe, Worry-beat” conception. Workshops on those activities are organized (with extra charge).

The Arolithos Festival and events

Evenings of Greek and Cretan dance and music are organized several times a week.

At the small chapel, at the main square, baptisms and weddings take place during all weekends from May to September, with unique Cretan feasts dominated by traditional music and dance.

If you want your peace and quiet, you might prefer to stay in the village during the weekdays, if not, come during the weekend to join the Cretan feasts! You are welcome!
