Adorable ensemble de petites maisons traditionnelles aménagées avec goût. L’accueil par l’hôtesse, francophone, est parfait avec de nombreuses petites attentions et des conseils utiles sur les visites à faire et les tavernes à essayer. Un seul regret, que la piscine soit aussi éloignée.

Driving from Heraklion: (115 km, 1h45 approx.) Take the Heraklion-Agios Nikolaos National Road and then towards Ierapetra through Pachia Ammos and finally to Agios Ioannis- Koutsounari. Alternative road from Agios Nikolaos: towards Ierapetra and then to Koutsounari village. In 800m after entering the village of Koutsounari on your right you will see the entrance of Koutsounari Traditional Cottages.

Visit & guided tour at the organic farm Althaea (free of charge): The tour takes place in the certified bio farm Alhea with a stunning view of the Libyan Sea. You will have the opportunity to admire the stunning views whilst walking through the natural walking paths, full of lavender, sage, oregano and rosemary as well as many other Cretan herbs and trees. Stefanos and Panayiota, your hosts, will welcome you as friends and will be happy to share with you their knowledge and passion for the nature.

Beeswax and traditional candle making (with extra charge): The tour takes in the certified bio farm Alhea. You will start your visit by discovering the climate and geological conditions of the unique Cretan ecosystem. You will briefly discover the life of bees, their products and how people used them. An extra focus on the lifecycle of beeswax and its use will be presented: from its formation inside the hive and storing the precious honey, to how we can form wax bars and craft traditional candles. During the visit you will enjoy the local organic tea as well as some delicious seasonal snacks.
